ABOUT US

ABOUT OUR CHURCH

Second Mile Church exists to love beyond obligation, serve beyond expectation, and lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our name comes from Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:41:“If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” At Second Mile Church, we believe faith is meant to be lived out, not just talked about. We are a community of people committed to growing together, serving others, and reflecting the love of Christ in everyday life. You don’t need to have everything figured out to belong here—just a willingness to take the next step.

What we Believe

At Second Mile Church, our beliefs are based on the Bible and centered on Jesus Christ. We believe God’s Word is true, trustworthy, and the final authority for our faith, our choices, and our daily life.

The Bible

We believe the Christian Bible is inspired, infallible Word of God and is the final authority in matters of faith, doctrine, morality, and daily living. God’s word is not merely to be studied, but to be followed. We believe that the Church today has no authority to establish doctrine or practice anything that goes against Scripture. We value accurate, word‑for‑word Bible translations (such as KJV, NASB, or ESV) for teaching and settling differences among Christians. -- Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” -- James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word…Do what it says.”

God

We believe there is one true and living God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is holy, loving, just, unchanging, and the Creator and Sustainer of all things.

Humanity and Sin

We believe God created people in His image. Humanity fell into sin through Adam’s disobedience, and because of that, we are separated from God. We cannot make ourselves right with God without His grace. We are saved only through faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God—fully God and fully man. We believe He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless and miracle‑working life, died on the cross as the sacrifice for our sins, was buried, rose bodily from the dead, and now reigns in glory as Lord until all things are placed under His feet.

Salvation and New Life

--2 Corinthians 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ—not by works. When we repent and believe, God forgives us, makes us new, and brings us into a right relationship with Him.

The New Testament Christian Experience

We believe the experiences seen in the New Testament are normal and valid for today, including:

• Justification by grace through faith in Jesus Christ

• Receiving Jesus as Savior and calling on the name of the Lord

• Confessing Jesus as Lord and believing God raised Him from the dead

• Repentance shown by a changed mind and life

• Water baptism by immersion, as a public declaration of faith

• Being filled with the Holy Spirit, including speaking in other tongues as the Spirit enables, as an endowment of power from on high to be Christ’s witnesses

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit lives in believers, guiding, convicting, empowering, producing spiritual fruit, and helping us grow in Christ. We believe the gifts of the Spirit are active today as God wills and should be encouraged under the guidance of the Church.

The Church

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, made up of all believers, united in Christ regardless of ethnicity, called to worship God, make disciples, serve others, and share the gospel with the world.

The Priesthood of the Believer

We believe every person born of God has equal status in Christ, direct access to the Lord, and is called to serve Him.

Ministry and Leadership

We believe God calls and equips leaders in the Church (Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher) to help build up believers and prepare them for ministry until the Lord’s return. We believe in honoring and supporting ministers and ministries with respect, tithes, and offerings.

Christian Living

--John 14:15“If you love me, keep my commands.” We believe followers of Jesus are called to live in obedience, holiness, humility, love, and forgiveness – submitting every area of life to the authority of God’s Word.

We believe salvation begins a lifelong process of growth and redemption, and the Holy Spirit shapes us into the character of Jesus Christ. We practice genuine Christianity by serving God and people through good works and by confessing our sins to God for forgiveness and cleansing.

Marriage and Family

-- Genesis 1:27“So God created mankind in his own image…male and female he created them.”

We believe God created humanity in His image and intentionally created two distinct genders: male and female. These genders are God-given and unchangeable, designed to reflect His purposes and glory.

-- Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife.” What God has joined together, let no one separate.”

We believe marriage is a sacred covenant established by God between one man and one woman, designed for lifelong faithfulness, companionship, and as the foundation of the family. We believe husbands and wives should love and honor one another, and parents should nurture children in the Lord while children obey their parents.

Baptism and Communion

We believe water baptism and communion are biblical ordinances commanded by Christ. Baptism is a public declaration of faith, and communion (bread and wine) is a remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice and ongoing work in our lives.

Worship and Fellowship

We believe God’s people should gather regularly for prayer, praise, biblical teaching, preaching, and fellowship.

Mission

We believe the Church is called to make disciples, serve others, share the gospel, and spread the Good News to the entire world—seeking the restoration of authentic Christianity.

The Future and Eternity

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead and eternal life with God for those who place their faith in Jesus Christ. We believe Jesus will return. Those who are dead and those who are alive in Christ will rise to meet Him. We believe in the literal second coming and rule of Christ, the final judgment, and eternal life with God for those who place their faith in Jesus Christ.

Our Heart and Approach

We are committed to standing firmly on biblical truth while extending grace, compassion, and respect. At Second Mile Church we believe truth and love are not opposed—and we seek to live both faithfully.
